Today I finally woke up well rested with a lush breakfast waiting for us downstairs. The staf of the GKEEA hotel is very friendly and the bonus of being in an exclusive hotel is that they know all their guests. We got offered fresh pressed orange juice, freshly brewed coffee or tea and had a whole buffet of food to eat from. My girlfriend had trouble sleeping because of the bright lights at night in the room so she wasn’t the ray of sunshine she usually is, to say the least 😅 . After being fed and had her cappuccino, all was well and we prepared ourselves for a (you guessed it) lazy day at the beach.
When we saw the beach for the first time, it left us both speechless. The scenery was almost fairytale-like: crystal clear blue water, white little pebbles and mountains at the sides of the bay of Ierissos filled with beautiful flora.
We couldn’t wait to dive in the sea so we got installed at a nice beach bar called Corali. We got 3 sun seats at our disposal with ample space between neighboring tables and a parasol with a table integrated in there. The menu was plasticized so easily readable even when wet. We had a fun, young waitress serve us. Our mojito was good -aside from having too few lime and mint in it for our taste-, the sangria barely had any fruit in there and the Strongbow was a bit too expensive. Other than that we got a lot of gratuities like salted nuts, chips, breadsticks and even a fruit salad. I ordered the special burger with french fries which tasted much better than in Perea.
The sea itself is great to dive in because it goes deep very quickly and entering it is less hurtful than the beaches in Thessaloniki as they are filled with broken and/or pointy sea shells. We took the GoPro with us to make some cool underwater pictures and videos. To summarize: we had a blast and a very relaxing day.
After having a lovely shower so came nightfall. The sky was very colorful so we decided to take a few pictures on a pier and we went to fetch us some pizza at Sublime. I ordered a “calzone special”. It was cheesy greatness. My girl had a “sublime” which was also delicious. We noticed that the meat here in general is a lot juicier than back home. Returning to our hotel we did some star gazing because they were brighter and there were more than we have ever seen.
Tomorrow we have to return back to Belgium and we will both miss it here terribly 😢
